As the department grew, so did the need for better facilities to house a newly acquired fire truck. Once again, the Stockdale volunteer firemen reached out to organizations throughout town for support. Meetings were held to explore building a community center, but after several discussions, the project was ultimately abandoned due to a lack of leadership and community interest.

Undeterred, the firemen persevered.

Over the following years, funds were raised through numerous community projects, all dedicated to building a new fire station. In July 1956, ground was officially broken, and construction began — with much of the labor generously donated by firefighters and townspeople.

The new fire station and social hall was dedicated on November 17, 1957, becoming a central gathering place for both the department and the community.

To this day, the building continues to serve as our social hall. During the station expansion in the 1970s, the building received a new façade and entryway, along with the addition of the annex and expanded kitchen facilities that many still enjoy today.

A testament to perseverance, volunteer spirit, and community pride — this building remains an important part of Stockdale VFD history.

Stay tuned next week as we continue sharing moments from our department’s past! 🚒
