| By the early 1950s, the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department had outgrown its original station—especially after the purchase of a new fire engine in 1950 that required more space.
Recognizing this need, Stockdale volunteer firemen reached out to local organizations throughout the community for help. A series of meetings were held to explore the idea of constructing a community center. Unfortunately, after several discussions, the plan was abandoned due to a lack of leadership and overall interest.
But the firemen didn’t give up.
Over the following years, funds were raised through various projects, all with one goal in mind—building a new fire station. Their perseverance paid off. In July of 1956, ground was officially broken, and construction began. Much of the labor was donated by the firemen themselves, along with many dedicated townspeople who stepped up to help.
The new fire station and social hall was proudly dedicated on November 17, 1957, becoming the second fire station in Stockdale Fire Department history and a cornerstone of the community for years to come.

👉 Stay tuned for next week’s post, where we’ll show you what that fire station looked like once it was completed!
