At approximately 12:46 am, Station 17 was activated for a search and rescue detail for a 2 year old child that went missing from her home in Allenport Borough Chief, Utility, & Brush 17 arrived on scene and performed an initial search. Due to the unknown length of time the child had been missing, additional resources were requested bringing in Station 22 (Lock 4) VFC’s K9 search & rescue team, along with their thermal drone. Station 16 (Roscoe) was added for manpower to start searching from Elco Borough with thermal cameras heading north, Station 33 (Charleroi) was added to search from Stockdale, heading south with their UTV & thermal cameras and Station 47 (Fallowfield) was added for their thermal drone.
The K9 team got a scent and tracked towards the river, so at that time water rescue units were requested from Station 33 (Charleroi), Station 66 (Donora), and Westmoreland County Station 103 (Collinsburg). Additionally, Lifeflight was requested to perform an aerial search with their thermal capabilities.
After an extensive ground search of the entire RESA area, the child was located. As a precautionary measure, the child was transferred to Rostraver EMS and taken to the hospital.
The search lasted roughly 3.5 hours and a happy outcome was the result. Great work to Stockdale Firefighter, Brad Martin, as he was the one that located the child.
Thank you to all of our Mutual Aid departments as this was a true testament as to why we train and get specialized equipment to serve our communities.
